What will I Study?

This course is tailored for those who aim to get a well-rounded view of engineering to support in their career choice, or further education.

The course is split into 6 units. Three of these units are core engineering and are common across each level 4 course. Then there is a general engineering unit on Structural Mechanics and Dynamics.

There are then 2 optional units which you will get to choose from a list of options.

During your study you will start by studying the fundamental principles that under-pin all engineering:

Core Units

Engineering Design and Ethics – to help you to develop your mechanical engineering design skills.

Engineering Maths – so that you develop your mathematical skills that you will need to succeed with the rest of your course

Engineering Science – to give you a grounding in the science that underpins the engineering that you will study.

Specialist Units

Structural Mechanics & Dynamics – in this unit you will study fundamental engineering topics such as forces, stress, statics dynamics, and machine theory and practice.

+2 Optional Units – You will have access to a range of optional units, so that you can study topics that interest you. These can be taken from a range of subjects such as mechanical, electrical, manufacturing, or aerospace engineering. A full list of available units can be found here.

To be awarded a Higher International Certificate in Engineering (EduQual Level 4), you must successfully complete 120 credits at level 4. Each of the 6 units are equally worth 20 credits each.

Are there any entry requirements?

Our level 4 Higher International Certificate courses are all designed to be open access courses, meaning there are no pre-requisite entry requirements.

We have specifically designed our maths and science units so that they start with the very basics and develop your skills up to the required level needed to complete the course.

All our courses are delivered in English language, so you must be competent in learning technical information in English.

How long will it take to complete?

Typically, most learners take between 1 and 2 years when studying on a part-time basis.

However, as these are distance learning engineering courses, you are in control of your own learning schedule, and so you have the freedom to complete the course in your own timescale. Therefore, our online engineering courses can be completed more quickly depending on your existing commitments and/or your existing knowledge.

How am I assessed?

All of our units are assessed by 100% written assignments. There are no exams to sit.

Is this course accredited?

Yes. All iLearn courses are fully accredited by a UK awarding body, EduQual.

EduQual is a regulated awarding body, approved by SQA-Accreditation, and a globally-recognised national qualifications regulator in the UK. They are a full member of the Federation of Awarding Bodies (FAB).
