Exemption Policy

Exemption requirements in the context of this Top-Up Degree in Accounting & Finance criteria that allow students to be exempted from certain courses or modules based on their prior academic qualifications or professional certifications. Exemptions are granted to students who have already covered the material in a previous course or have relevant professional experience.

  1. Previous Academic Qualifications:
    • Students may be eligible for exemptions based on their previous academic qualifications. For example, if a student has already completed courses in accounting, finance, or related subjects at a recognized institution, they may be exempted from similar courses in the top-up degree program.
  2. Professional Qualifications and Certifications:
    • Students who hold professional qualifications or certifications relevant to accounting and finance, such as ACCA (Association of Chartered Certified Accountants), CIMA (Chartered Institute of Management Accountants), or CPA (Certified Public Accountant), may be eligible for exemptions from certain courses. The level and relevance of the certification are typically considered.
  3. Work Experience:
    • Students may grant exemptions based on the student’s relevant work experience. For example, if a student has worked in accounting or finance roles for (5-10+ years) s and can demonstrate competence in subject areas in the DSc Degree in Accounting & Finance program, they may be exempt from related coursework.
  4. Exemption Examinations:
    • In some cases, the Green State Oil and Gas Services Inc., Technical University may offer exemption examinations that allow students to demonstrate their knowledge in a particular subject. If they pass the examination, they may receive an exemption from taking the corresponding course, as per the “Qualification Levels, for entry to the top-up degree program matrix.”
  5. Portfolio Assessment:
    • Students may be asked to provide a portfolio of their work or evidence of prior learning. A panel or academic committee may then assess whether their prior learning and experience align with the learning outcomes of specific modules, leading to potential exemptions.
  6. Interviews or Assessments:
    • In some instances, Green State Oil and Gas Services Inc., Technical University may conduct interviews or assessments to gauge a student’s level of knowledge and competence in certain subjects. Based on the results, exemptions may be granted.
  7. Equivalence of Coursework:
    • Exemptions may be granted if a student can demonstrate that coursework completed at a previous institution is equivalent in content and level to the courses in the top-up degree program.
  8. Final Year Entry (Top-up):
    • Students entering the top-up degree in Accounting & Finance program at the final year (year 3), with qualifications at Level 5, will be accepted to the final year (year 3) of the BSc top-up Degree in Accounting & Finance program. On completion of the relevant Accounting & Finance. Students are also eligible for the award of the Diploma in Accounting & Finance and the Advanced Diploma in Accounting & Finance. (These diplomas have possible double award, receiving 2nd Diploma from a third-party collaborative partners).
    • Mature students with 10 or more years of working experience in accounting, auditing, finance, insurance or banking environment or a combination of these are eligible for entry at the final year (year 3) and on completion of the relevant course work, will be awarded the BSc (top-up) Degree in Accounting & Finance. Students are also eligible for the award of the Diploma in Accounting & Finance and the Advanced Diploma in Accounting & Finance. (These diplomas have possible double award, receiving 2nd Diploma from a third-party collaborative partners).
  1. Graduation Requirements: Students must successfully complete all required course modules and elective module, project/dissertation, fulfill any other criteria including obtaining the minimum GPA 1.70 will graduate from the program.
